Let's take a look at only the 2nd 2yo race for the season:

FREMOND - 2yo colt. From the Belmont trials 15th September: Jumped ok but they all did in this 400m trial, hunted along immediately, was in 2nd spot early, in 3rd by the 200m, given a crack at the 150m, went to the line ok given it wasn't ridden out from the 100m, ran 3rd behind One More Run & Lucky Street btn 1.5L in slow time.
From the Belmont trials 30th September: Basic away but soon loomed up & led on the inside of two others until turning, led by just over 1L on straightening, pushed along now & given a few cracks at the 200m, led by 4 to 5L at the 100m & went on to win by 6.75L from Xaxello in average time for a 2yo trial at this stage.
Sat, 11th Oct 2014 Belmont Race 1 - Bungled the start but showed a real nice turn of foot to cut loose off a slow speed to win brilliantly on debut.

LUCKY STREET - 2yo colt. From the Belmont trials 15th September: Jumped ok from barrier 1 but they all did in this 400m trial, hunted along immediately but was given a crack after 50m, led by just over 1L at the 200m, same at the 100m, was given a quieter time the last 100m and got run down by One More Run btn a nose in what was a slow trial.
From the Belmont trials 30th September: Away quickly & over 1L in front after 30m (400m trial), pushed along from the 250m to the 100m, was 1L in front at the 100m but was run down by Glitterbell on the line to run 2nd by a nose. Ok trial in fair time.
Sat, 11th Oct 2014 Belmont Race 1 – Ran 6th on debut beaten 6.5L behind Fremond & Tworeen, but was quite unlucky when it couldn’t secure a run at a vital stage.

AMOURIO - 2yo colt. From the Lark Hill trials 13th October: Away ok, not brilliant but best of a bad bunch, pushed along the first 200m (400m trial), led by 2.5L at this point, given a quiet time the last 200m & in fact was hard held over the final 50m to win by 2L, appears to have ability but the trial time was extremely slow.
From the Belmont trials 20th October: Jumped ok & sat 4th the inside 2.5L off Peter Perfect early, got crowded for a run along the fence halfway down the straight, had to ease & switch off heels, lost a couple of lengths in doing so but picked up & really attacked the line well late, ran 4th btn 6L but probably should have run 2nd to Peter Perfect. Wore blinkers in this.

CALL TO WAR - 2yo colt. From the Belmont trials 30th September: Slowly away, although it ran last btn 1.75L in this 400m trial, it appears to have more ability than the other 4 in this trial, would like to see again over 900m plus.
From the Lark Hill trials 13th October: Jumped ok but soon restrained back to 2nd last & wide, came wide in the straight & shown the persuader soon after, ridden hands & heels after this and made good ground in the straight to fly down the outside & nail Rotana on the line to win by 0.2L in what was a very quick trial for 2yo's.

LORD CONRAD - 2yo gelding. From the Lark Hill trials 22nd September: Slowly away from the inside, not overly pushed along early, given a few cracks between the 150m & the 100m but showed little in this 400m trial btn 4L behind Obatala.
From the Lark Hill trials 6th October: Sat 1.5L off Bombs Away (who was flying up front) until straightening, battled on in the straight but couldn't keep up & ran 4th btn 2.75L by Grand Plan in what was a quick trial. Isn't hopeless but not quite good enough yet for the early 2yo races.

PETER PERFECT - 2yo colt. From the Lark Hill trials 13th October: Dipped slightly on jumping, even still led by over 1L after 50m, given a few cracks from this point, was joined at the 100m by Regulated & these two started to clear out late in the trial, ran 2nd by 0.2L to Regulated in what was a very slow trial over 400m. Need to see over 1000m.
From the Belmont trials 20th October: Jumped quickly & led by 0.5L after 150m, by 2L on turning, led by 4L on straightening, just pushed along hands & heels but was given two cracks at the 150m to go on & win easily by 3.5L in what was average time for a 2yo trial. Beat Regulated by 10.5L this time. Is a jump & run type which always helps at this age.

RAGING RED - 2yo gelding. From the Belmont trials 30th September: Missed the start by over 1L, scrubbed along, still last after 200m (400 trial), ran into 3rd under basic hands & heels riding the last 150m to run 3rd btn 1L, ok trial but still a green horse, the trial time here was slow.
From the Lark Hill trials 13th October: Slowest away & soon back last, had worked to 3rd last on turning, railed through & was 3L off the lead on straightening, given many cracks but had nothing from the 200m to run 6th (3rd last) behind Call To War in what was a very quick 2yo trial.
From the Belmont trials 20th October: Sat 3rd but 3 wide until turning, 2.5L off the lead at this point, really pushed along hard in the straight & given a crack at the 150m but really made no impression on Peter Perfect who was doing it easily out in front. Ran 2nd btn 3.5L by Peter Perfect.

TWOREEN - 2yo filly. From the Belmont trials 30th September: Jumped ok but soon dropped out to be at the rear 6-7L off the lead before turning, still 8-9 L off the lead upon straightening, ran home strongly under no riding to run 3rd but was still btn 8.5L by Watijadoo. Like to see this horse trial again.
From the Lark Hill trials 6th October: Jumped ok in a field that jumped evenly, soon after went to a narrow lead, led by 2L on straightening, pushed along hands & heels now & remained this way the entire straight to win by 6L however it ran near 7L slower than the following trial won by Grand Plan.
Sat, 11th Oct 2014 Belmont Race 1 –Very green on debut but showed a very nice turn of foot which was even slightly better than Fremond’s. Has above average finishing speed for a 2yo at this time of year. Had a 4kg weight swing on Fremond this day, but gets 6kg’s this time.

GRAND PLAN - 2yo filly. From the Lark Hill trials 6th October: Clearly slowest away here & 5L off them after 50m, settled 2nd last & 4L off them until straightening, pulled wide & started a run under soft riding, joined in at the 150m but was very green from this point, went on to win by 0.2L in what was a very quick 2yo trial. Has obvious ability.
From the Lark Hill trials 13th October: Jumped ok but found itself midfield & wide until straightening, one of the widest in the straight, wanted to hang from the 250m, given 2 cracks from the 150m & did attack the line but the wide run & the bad manners didn't help, ran 3rd by 1.5L to Call To War with a further 2.25L back to 3rd in what was a quick trial.

Synposis: This is a much stronger race than our opening 2yo race of the season two weeks ago. Peter Perfect is the one to beat here for mine. He is the likely leader, has a turn of foot & may just pinch enough of a break to hold on & win. Fremond is likely to sit closer this time assuming it jumps better & it has an impressive turn of foot itself. There was a 4kg difference between Fremond & Tworeen last start, however there will be 6kg’s difference today. Amourio has ability judging by its trials, but it may get caught a bit wide. If it gets cover in the run, it will be running on for sure. If Peter Perfect over cooks it up front, Call To War & Tworeen will be running on hard. Grand Plan has trialled well twice now, but looks more of a place chance.

The winner of the race boils down to two divisions. Here are my likely winners from those divisions:

Lead/On Pace: Peter Perfect & Fremond
Midfield/Backmarkers: Call To War & Tworeen
