"Singapore Derby placegetter Magical Talent took a first step towards redeeming himself from his last-start blunder when he passed his barrier test on Tuesday morning.

Though not many had warmed up to his chances of reproducing his cheeky third to Spalato in the Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby (2000m) in the Group 2 Chairman’s Trophy (1800m) two weeks later, any chance of a repeat upset was truly dead and buried when he stood flat-footed at the gates for new rider Tadhg O’Shea, losing many lengths to go and beat one home. The race was won by stablemate Goodman.

Trainer Laurie Laxon had to head back to the drawing board with the talented but unpredictable son of Show A Heart. The judge flashed the mandatory white card, and thankfully for connections, Magical Talent did not make a hash of his start on Tuesday, even winning the trial by a neck from Savodan (Alan Munro)."
