Darley Sprint Classic Tips, Bets and Race Preview – 2021

The penultimate Group 1 contest of the Melbourne Spring Carnival will see nine gallopers step out for the 2021 Darley Sprint Classic.

It is fair to say that this isn’t the strongest edition of the Darley Sprint Classic, and Nature Strip has opened a clear and justifiable favourite.

Check out my 2021 Darley Sprint Classic Tips below.

Darley Sprint Classic – Winner – No. 1 Nature Strip

Ordinarily I would be keen to take him on at such a short price, but I simply cannot find one good enough to topple Nature Strip in the Darley Sprint Classic.

The Nicconi gelding has won nearly every major sprint in Australia throughout a glittering career, and he added the biggest prize to his CV when holding on to beat Masked Crusader in The Everest last time.

He’s rock-hard fit, James McDonald rides and he’ll only need to be close to his best to win this race again.

Darley Sprint Classic – 2nd – No. 6 Bella Nipotina

She has been a consistent performer throughout her career, but there is no doubting that Bella Nipotina has gone to another level this spring, and she can return another competitive performance in the Darley Sprint Classic.

The Pride Of Dubai mare simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and she hasn’t missed placing in six back this time.

She takes her place at Flemington on Saturday following a close-up second placing behind Jonker in the Manikato Stakes, and she is drawn to receive a lovely run in behind the early leaders.

Darley Sprint Classic – 3rd – No. 2 Streets Of Avalon

If there is a horse who is over the odds in Darley Sprint Classic betting, it’s Streets Of Avalon.

The two-time Group 1 winner did mike his form a little earlier in his campaign, and mustered a lightning turn of foot to savage the line for fourth in the Manikato last time, in what was arguably the run of the race.

Had he been a little closer, he almost certainly would have challenged for the win, and Zac Spain can get him within striking distance, I think that he can run a place at a big price this week.

Darley Sprint Classic – 4th – No. 5 September Run

Her form has been far below her best this time, but she is rock-hard fit, and I think that September Run is still probably the best of the rest in this Darley Sprint Classic field.

The Exceed And Excel mare has managed to place only once in her four starts since resuming, but her best career efforts have come on the Flemington straight track, and included a dominant win in last year’s Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Craig Williams retains the ride and the horse is certainly good enough to compete at her best.
