The final Group 1 feature of the 2022 Adelaide Autumn Carnival headlines Saturday’s program at Morphettville, and we are set for another exciting edition of The Goodwood!
It’s typically one of the most open Group 1 races in the country every year, and there is absolutely no exception to that rule in 2022 – at publish, we’re faced with $6 the field in The Goodwood betting.
The Goodwood – Winner
No. 4 The Inferno
Former Singaporean superstar can record his first Australian Group 1 win in The Goodwood.
He hit the ground running when debuting in Australia last spring, and won the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at The Valley before only just missing in the Moir.
He didn’t show a lot in his first couple back this time, but I thought that he was excellent in the Irwin Stakes here a fortnight ago, he steps out this week in peak order, and he looks a touch of overs at The Goodwood odds of $10 (at publish).
The Goodwood – 2nd
No. 6 In The Boat
In The Boat has opened our warm favourite in The Goodwood betting and obviously, he rates as a key winning chance.
The Nostradamus gelding hasn’t missed placing in his eleven trips to the races since debuting, winning seven times and finding form around some above-average gallopers.
He’s won four of five in 2022, including both the Abell Stakes and the lucrative Discovery at Sale most recently, but this is a sizeable rise in class, and he’ll need to find his absolute best.
The Goodwood – 3rd
No. 20 General Beau
One that I consider to be a silly price in The Goodwood betting is General Beau, who is up at $26 at publish.
He has picked off some nice races throughout his career, particularly during his two-year-old season, and he has returned some excellent efforts this time.
He kept his best work for late when third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes three starts back, and he steps out this week following a smart second in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze over this route a fortnight ago.
General Beau gets into the race well under the conditions, and I for one would not be surprised to see him in the finish again.
The Goodwood – 4th
No. 11 Regardsmaree
Regardmaree is another horse who takes his place in The Goodwood field in winning form and at peak fitness.
The Nick Ryan-trained galloper has been a notable performer for a few seasons now, but he really does look to have found career-best form this time, and finished second behind In The Boat in the Abell Stakes before claiming consecutive wins in the VOBIS Gold Sprint and the Listed Anniversary Vase most recently.
With even luck, I think he can and will lay a great account for himself at the highest level.
