Another One takes out the rich Country Championships Final

The country town of Tullibigeal near Wagga Wagga will be the toast of the NSW Southern Districts after the Gary Colvin-trained Another One saluted in the $500,000 Country Championships Final at Randwick.

The horse’s owners all have links to the tiny town, although the majority of them were at Randwick on Saturday to watch the four-year-old go one better than his second to Art Cadeau in the corresponding race last year.

“We are from Tullibigeal. Half the owners have moved away from Tullibigeal but they’re in the horse,” Colvin said.

“We kept together and they are friends and relations.

“This is fantastic.”

After Another One was runner-up in the Country Championships last year, Colvin was hoping to gain a slot in the Kosciuszko.

However, the horse wasn’t selected so he tested him over longer trips and when that didn’t work, another shot at this year’s Country Championships firmed on his radar.

“He never got picked up in the Kosciuszko, which was a bit disappointing, so we decided to try him over a bit of ground because he seemed to want to settle,” Colvin said.

“(Then) I spelled him and I was a bit disappointed with him, so I said, ‘let’s go to the Country Championships again’.

“That’s what we set out to do and here we are.”

Ridden by Nick Heywood, Another One ($8.50) swept home along the inside to score by a half-neck over Commando Hunt ($9) with Amulet Street ($51) a length away third.
