Caffe Florian stamps her quality in the Gosford Guineas

A flawless debut campaign for Caffe Florian continued at Gosford where the progressive filly claimed the Listed Gosford Guineas and added black type to her résumé.

Trainer Richard Litt deliberately avoided placing expectations on the Snitzel filly heading into the 1200-metre feature, viewing the assignment as a test rather than a destination.

“Super filly and what she has done this preparation is pretty amazing,” Litt said.

“Jason rode her beautifully and nursed her around the corner. I think there is so much more improvement in her and she’ll go to the paddock now.

“We’ll look after her and she’ll come back a much better horse. We were happy to get here.”

When asked about what might come next, Litt was quick to take the pressure off.

“Too much pressure for me,” the Warwick Farm-based said when prompted on future plans and, at this stage, there are not any other than a spell before higher aims.

Jason Collett made full use of the early tempo, allowing Caffe Florian ($1.75F) to relax before circling the field on the bend and asserting late to defeat Mareth ($5) by half a length, with Memo ($4.60) finishing third after encountering interference.

“She did it pretty easily and the pace was good early,” Collett said.

“She wouldn’t want any further at present as she’s still learning what it is about.

“We made an early move when the pace came off at the start of the turn and she won it soft in the end.”

The $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase has now recorded three consecutive wins from four career starts, having recovered $171,000 in prizemoney.
