Confidence abounds from trainer Peter Moody that Alpha Sofie can make amends in her Stakes appearance at Caulfield.
Alpha Sofie marred her spotless formline for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman via a woeful effort in the $1 million Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington back on February 28.
With the mare vetted head to tail, Moody deems Alpha Sofie race-ready again, nominating her for Saturday’s Group 3 Don Casboult Classic (1200m).
Her career launched in Queensland, capped by successive wins for Jason Edwards, before Alpha Sofie hit the ground running for Moody and Coleman in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last spring.
Given time off after that conquest, Alpha Sofie restarted with a resolute victory at Caulfield on February 7 in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) en route to her subpar straight-course run at Flemington.
Moody commented that Alpha Sofie has rebounded from the mishap and welcomes the filly racing with bends involved.
“She’s flying,” Moody said.
“She just got a bump at the start the other day and then pulled her head off, which she’s never done before.
“That was down the straight for the first time for her. She charged and got lost.”
Moody’s assurance in the filly extends to earmarking the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in late April on Alpha Sofie’s schedule.
“Hopefully this run will set her up to go to Adelaide for the Sangster,” Moody said.
“That was where she was going the other day if she had won, so she can have this one to get her back on track.”
As Zac Spain heads Sydney-wards for the Rosehill Guineas and Group 1 pursuit with Victorious Spirit following three rides on the filly for Moody and Coleman, Luke Nolen assumes the jockey role on Saturday.
