Coolangatta to step out in the BJ McLachlan Stakes

Star two-year-old Coolangatta will be out to cement her place at the top of Magic Millions charts when she runs at Doomben.

Coolangatta will be floated to Brisbane during the week ahead of the Magic Millions B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday, her lead-up run to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 15.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace -trained daughter of Written Tycoon created a huge impression on debut winning the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick in October.

Coolangatta was installed as favourite for the Magic Millions after that victory and shortened into $2.25 for the Gold Coast race on the strength of a trial victory at Randwick on December 7.

Maher said he had seen the filly on a couple of occasions in between inspecting yearlings ahead of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale that commences on the Gold Coast on January 11.

“She’s in really good order,” Maher said.

“She trialled very impressively and looked very forward in condition.

“I’ve been up to the Hunter looking at yearlings in the last couple of weeks and have swung through to have a look at her.

“She’s spot on.”

Maher has been hard at work in recent weeks inspecting yearlings in the hope of finding his next Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner.

He won the race in 2020 with Away Game who is expected to line up for the third time at the rich race day next month.

“We’ve done Victoria, we’ve done the Southern Highlands, I’ve done the Hunter twice and I’ll probably do Queensland during the week,” Maher said.

“It’s been a very successful sale for us and there’s been very good interest again.”
