David Harrison searchin’ for WA Champion Fillies Stakes success

The talented fillies are one-two in Tabtouch market order after 1 ¾ lengths separated the pair when they clashed in last Tuesday’s Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m).

Searchin’ Roc’s hit the front at the top of the straight in the Burgess Queen Stakes, but she couldn’t withstand Buzzoom’s powerful finishing burst from near last.

David Harrison says a more conservative approach from jockey Kyra Yuill can go a long way towards Searchin’ Roc’s recording her fifth win from seven starts.

“She is going super and I’m really happy with her,” Harrison told Tabradio.

“I’m sure she is going to acquit herself very well.

“I think she went a fraction too early in the Burgess Queen.

“She hit the front at the corner coming off a fast pace.

“It set it up for the ones out the back.

“We’ll try and be a bit more patient this time.

“We’ll try and have the last shot at them.”

A winner of the Belgravia Stakes (1200m) first up in October, Searchin’ Roc’s has drawn barrier seven. Kyra Yuill retains the ride.

The daughter of Awesome Rock is second favourite ($3.90) behind Buzzoom $2.00.

Harrison says Searchin’ Roc’s is on target for a Group 1 event if she produces an outstanding performance in the Champion Fillies.

“A lot will depend on how she gets through it,” Harrison said.

“She’s always been lightly framed.

“I didn’t really want to back her up in the Guineas.

“If she happens to get over the line in the Champion Fillies then she has done her job as far as the three-year-old’s go.

“I will probably go straight to the Kingston Town (1800m).”

Meanwhile Harrison has elected to tackle the Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) in preference to the Peters Stakes (1500m) with Media Baron.

“It’s a bit strange to say, but there appears to be more pace in the 1800m than the 1500m,” Harrison said.

“He’s going to sit back last no matter what race he’s in.

“If he goes well, I’ll back him up in the Railway (1600m).”

Media Baron is an $18 chance in the Ascot Gold Cup.

The WA Guineas (1600m) and Railway Stakes are staged next Saturday.

The Kingston Town Classic will be run on December 4.
