Trainer Barry Lockwood initially indicated that there wasn’t a great deal to say about his filly Extreme Taste “because she hasn’t won yet.” However, with a bit more prompting, he’s considerably more positive about her chances of breaking her maiden status at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Extreme Taste, a three-start maiden, will line up in the Ipswich Party Hire Fillies and Mares Maiden (1200m) second-up this preparation from barrier nine. Her last outing saw her finish third at Doomben in maiden company over 1110m on May 24.
“The only thing that will stop her is the wide gate,” Lockwood commented. “She’s ready to win but just needs a bit of luck and I think it was a bit of pilot error as the rider gave away the run to the winner. Going four-deep on the corner and staying there didn’t help. She did a lot of work and the wider the rail is and the wider you are, the worse it gets.”
She is now the $2.80 favourite for the event, with two-kilo claiming apprentice Benjamin Osmond booked to ride. Damien Boche is unavailable due to injury following a recent fall at Gold Coast.
“If she gets a nice run from the barrier, she’ll be very hard to beat,” veteran conditioner Lockwood added. He is relishing the experience of being in a training partnership with Emma-Jane Vincent, a collaboration formalised late last year.
By Extreme Choice and out of the American-bred mare Leamington, Extreme Taste has a strong family lineage, with five of her seven siblings having achieved multiple wins.
