Ex-Hong Kong star Ka Ying Cheer eyes Bendigo bounce-back

Sunday’s Champions Sprint in Hong Kong saw speed ace Ka Ying Rising extend his perfect record, paving way for his former sidekick to embark on another winning surge this Saturday.

Ka Ying Cheer wants to shake off his maiden Australian reverse by racing at Bendigo.

Nominated for benchmark 84 matchups at 1100m and 1300m, the previous Hong Kong dash specialist’s chosen distance resumes action after sixth at Caulfield April 11, terminating three wins on the trot.

Australia began brightly with an 1100m Class 1 at Pakenham February 5, then benchmark 66 victory over 1100m at Seymour February 20, capped by 1200m benchmark 78 at Caulfield March 21.

Shared ownership with Ka Ying Rising under Leung Shek-Kong saw him quarantine jointly before The Everest last year, leading to a permanent shift to Lindsay Park in Australia.

Stable co-trainer Ben Hayes, with Will and JD, praised the six-year-old’s contribution, noting elevated opposition in his local start, but Saturday’s target aligns suitably for this prep phase.

“I think he will bounce back,” Hayes said.

“He managed to win three in a row and kind of just got to his grade, but he’s working nicely going into it.

“He didn’t run badly (last start), but he just needs things to go right.

“He’s deep into his prep now and he has won three in a row and he’s up to good city class races. That’s probably where he’s at from now on.”

Ka Ying Cheer’s each-way stable support features Stoli Bolli in dual entries, Nervous Witness at 1100m, and Laa De Shaa as a 1300m prospect.

The Bendigo fixture boasts the Golden Mile (1600m) drawing Von Hauke, Osipenko and Hughes, and Bendigo Guineas, $200,000 Listed highlights.
