Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman’s high-class three-year-old fillies commence their autumn with Alpha Sofie spearheading at Caulfield.
The filly resumes racing post-September hiatus in Saturday’s Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m).
From a Queensland base initially, Alpha Sofie doubled up at Eagle Farm then made swift inroads for Moody and Coleman at Moonee Valley, going into spell promptly thereafter.
The barn anticipates Alpha Sofie’s re-entry with interest, Coleman indicated, as do three-year-old filly peers Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer.
Her trainers Moody and Coleman have noted the filly’s enhanced physique and maturity gained away from competition.
“I think she’s improved off her last preparation,” Coleman said.
“Her work and her jump-outs leading into this first-up run have been really impressive.
“She won very comfortably at her only run for us and it was a good form race as well.
“We’re very excited and the break did her well. She seems more mature and stronger physically this time as well.”
Alpha Sofie took the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) around Moonee Valley, brushing aside Custom, Salty Pearl and Ole Dancer from the same stable.
Ole Dancer lifted the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in late spring, Sheza Alibi notching success through Melbourne Cup week to the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).
“She (Alpha Sofie) is the first one we’re unleashing and next week we’ll have Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer back at the races, all being well,” Coleman said.
“Sheza Alibi goes to the Desirable Stakes while Ole Dancer will go to the fillies and mares Frances Tressady Stakes.”
Each race spans 1400m at Flemington. Bettors targeting the Peter Le Grand Stakes with Alpha Sofie should explore the betting markets for the race.
