Flemington straight to suit Beehunter

John Sadler believes Beehunter will relish returning to Flemington on ANZAC day and will be suited down the straight six.

Having run top four in his last four runs since a win at Pakenham, Beehunter returns to Flemington on ANZAC day to contest a benchmark 78 handicap on the final race of the card.

Often a victim of a backmarker’s racing pattern and bad luck, Beehunter is racing well this time in and a switch to the wide expanses of Flemington will spark improvement according to trainer John Sadler.

“I think he’s better suited at Flemington and down the straight. He ran really well the other day and he’s been running terrifically well all prep but he just can’t get over the line (first),” said Sadler.

Despite never having won at Flemington, Beehunter has run second on three occasions, and his most recent attempt down the straight was an eye-catching 4th behind Don’Ttelltheboss on All Star Mile Day.

Sadler has struggled to find suitable races for the five-year-old at complementary tracks where the horse can take his time to wind up.

“He’s a pest in that he doesn’t go at Caulfield and he’s even worse at Moonee Valley. He’s just a Flemington and Sandown horse and the races for those horses with his rating, they just don’t put them on very often.”

Beehunter is a $16 chance with the TAB for Monday, with the market headed by Rockribbed for the Maher & Eustace stable.
