Promising filly Just A Journey has made it two wins from as many starts this preparation, delivering a commanding on-speed performance at Randwick’s Kensington midweek meeting and firming for a potential Queensland winter tilt.
The Michael Freedman-trained juvenile controlled the race from the front under Tommy Berry in the 1400m assignment and comfortably held her rivals at bay.
Nominated for the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the JJ Atkins, Just A Journey is now in contention for a trip north, with Ben Duckworth confirming the stable will assess her recovery before making plans.
“We will have to have a look and wait and see how she pulls up but Queensland is obviously an option,” Duckworth said.
“She is a horse who has relished the 1400. Up to a mile could be a question but I’ll leave that one to the boss.”
Berry praised the filly’s professionalism once she hit the front, despite some pre-race nervousness in the gates.
“I picked up the pace a hundred metres before the corner and got a few of them off the bit and she was too strong late,” he said.
