Earlier this year, there was a time when Chris Waller was preparing to say goodbye to the classy sprinting mare Generosity. However, this Saturday, she is set to commence another campaign under the champion trainer.
The six-year-old mare will make her return to racing in the $750,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes over 1000 metres at Sandown.
Generosity was initially entered for Inglis’s Chairman’s Sale in May, but was subsequently withdrawn. This followed serious consideration by Waller and owners B2B Thoroughbreds regarding a trip to Royal Ascot.
The potential overseas venture was abandoned after her unluckily run when a well-backed favourite, finishing sixth in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on Anzac Day. Waller is pleased that she remains in his care.
“We took her to Adelaide and had no luck and she’s spelled since,” he explained.
“She was that close to going to Royal Ascot and we just pulled the pin.”
“Even after that (Sangster Stakes) she was still OK, but I just thought it’s a long way to go to not be a good thing.”
“She’s come back well, she’s trailed well and she goes good fresh.”
The Divine Prophet filly, who finished sixth and fifth in two trials held in Sydney during August, is seeking her first Group 1 victory in the Moir Stakes.
Having won six of her 28 starts, the former Western Australian mare’s most notable success was the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) when resuming last campaign.
The Moir Stakes will be her debut run in Melbourne. However, the mare, purchased as a weanling for $9000, has considerable experience racing anti-clockwise, having begun her career in Perth. She raced there for her first 22 starts, earning over $800,000, before B2B acquired her privately.
Generosity will participate in a familiarisation gallop at Sandown on Tuesday morning. Giga Kick and Natural Fling are among other Moir Stakes entries expected to make the journey.
