Roll On High will be given the chance to snag a valuable late-spring prize for Lindsay Park when she lines up at Caulfield this Saturday.
The Shamus Award mare is set to contest the $200,000 Group 3 Summoned Stakes, a race that has been added to her preparation following her eye-catching performance at Flemington.
Just 11 days earlier, Roll On High produced a powerful finish to grab second in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, prompting co-trainer Ben Hayes to reassess her campaign.
“We were originally not going to head to this race, but we looked at the noms and thought it was very suitable,” Hayes said.
“She’s come through the last run excellent. She ran some of the fastest splits of the meeting, but still got beaten, and I think this is a good opportunity to get another Stakes win.”
Roll On High currently heads the market at $3.30 and will jump from gate eight in the field of ten.
The mare last tasted success in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) in June of last year and has not been beyond 1400m since finishing fourth in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) nearly two years ago.
Her only prior attempt at a distance further than 1400m came early in her career when she finished second in a 1500m Bendigo maiden for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.
Hayes admits that stretching her out to a mile is a gamble but believes conditions may prove ideal.
“It’s a big question mark, but she hasn’t been tried out to that trip very much and the way she hit the line the other day, you’d suggest a mile would be no problems.”
Roll On High, from the family of Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul, has had just three starts this preparation and appears ready to peak.
