Jolly pair to tackle the delayed Durbridge Stakes

Despite an unexpected delay, Richard Jolly is confident both Klabel and Great Maximus are ready to line up in Saturday’s Listed Durbridge Stakes at Morphettville.

The race was postponed after last weekend’s meeting was abandoned due to extreme heat, forcing trainers to wait an extra seven days.

Jolly admitted the change in schedule was frustrating but says the stable has taken it in stride.

“It’s never ideal when plans change late, but it hasn’t affected the horses,” he said.

“They’ve stayed in good order and we’re happy with how they’ve come through it.”

Klabel appears the stronger of the pair following his victory in the Listed Christmas Handicap late last month.

“He’s been very consistent and deserved that win,” Jolly said.

“Coming back to Adelaide suits him and this race looks very similar in quality to the one he just won.”

Great Maximus faces a tougher assignment, particularly under weight-for-age conditions.

“He probably wants a bit of give in the track and maybe another run,” Jolly said.

“But he needs racing at this time of year to build towards winter, and when things go his way he can be very competitive.”

The Durbridge Stakes forms part of a strong Saturday program at Morphettville, with markets available through leading Australian betting platforms.
