Kris Lees’ She’s Extra perfect after two and Magic Night Stakes looms

The Golden Slipper could prove premature, however Newcastle filly She’s Extra stays in contention for carnival action post her elegant double at Warwick Farm.

Exceedance’s progeny converted a February 14 four-length home victory into a thorough 3-1/4 length dismissal of Promenade during Wednesday’s All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud (1100m) Handicap.

Representing Kris Lees, Danny Greer affirmed intentions to pursue the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill a Saturday hence in a fortnight, barring any problems from her Warwick Farm effort.

The Golden Slipper (1200m) trails by merely a week, rendering the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick April 11 a sounder distant objective.

“There is a two-year-old fillies’ race next Saturday. Should she come through this well, which hopefully she does, we will nominate for that,” Greer said.

“We will take our path from there. She might even be a Percy Sykes type of horse, but Kris will map a plan.”

She’s Extra has demonstrated top-class potential throughout, Greer observed, with her dual early successes and Sydney transition warranting praise.

“It’s not easy to do for any horse, especially to go from a provincial race to a metro race,” he said.

“She has done it in good style, and she paraded really well today. She is a very professional type.”

Just Maz, trained by Gerald Ryan, also boasts two-for-two after annexing the Ranvet Handicap (1300m) Wednesday to her Canterbury debut from January.

The three-year-old’s ownership syndicate features John Singleton, directing her to the Group 3 James H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick April 18.

“That was the plan and that’s why we gave her the break after her first start,” Ryan said.

“She chased them down well, and was going to the line with her ears pricked. I don’t think we’ve gotten to the bottom of her yet.”
