Legacies tp bet set for the G1 Thousand Guineas

Trainer Peter Moody will look to the Melbourne Spring Carnival with Legacies who kept an unbeaten record with an impressive win at Sandown.

A debut winner at Cranbourne on April 14, Legacies added the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) to her record on Saturday.

The Anzac Day Stakes is traditionally run at Flemington but was rescheduled to Saturday’s program after the cancellation of racing in Victoria last Tuesday following the death of Dean Holland in a race fall at Donald the previous day.

Sent out the $3.20 betr favourite under Luke Nolen, Legacies scored a 4-½ length win from Chill The Krug ($6) with Arizona Activist ($4.40) a short-neck away third.

Moody is planning a Group 1 Thousand Guineas assault with Legacies following Saturday’s win, but with the shift of the race to mid-November, Moody said the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in October may also come under consideration.

“She’ll go to the paddock on Monday and hopefully onto of the Thousand Guineas,” Moody said.

“With the shift, the Flight Stakes may also be a consideration, but I think she’s a lovely horse. She’s going to be a better three-year-old than two-year-old, so this is a massive bonus.”

Moody said the stable had been patient with the filly, a daughter of Justify, but added Legacies was a filly that the stable had always liked.

“She didn’t put her hand up and said ‘hey’ but she’s always kept progressing, progressing, progressing,” Moody said.

“I think I had two or three that came in at the same time as her and I think I sacked the other two without racing them.”

Moody praised Nolen’s ride on Legacies allowing Magic Mogul to go to the front while keeping the filly comfortable.

“We just wanted to get her into a nice rhythm,” Moody said.

“She was a little bit uncomfortable at Cranbourne the other night, a little bit heady so she’s got to learn about racing, but she got into that nice rhythm and ran it out lovely.”
