Matt Laurie used Saturday’s Caulfield meeting as the perfect chance to sharpen up three key horses, sending Treasurethe Moment, Vinrock and See You In Heaven for gallops between races.
Treasurethe Moment galloped solo, while Vinrock and new stable recruit See You In Heaven went around together. All three are raced by Yulong, with both Treasurethe Moment and Vinrock set for Group 1 targets this spring.
Laurie said the away trip offered a valuable test compared to a home workout.
“It was all about a bit of race day stimulation and if you get the opportunity to take them away and work them on a lovely surface, you should take that opportunity,” Laurie said.
Treasurethe Moment is on track for the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at the end of August, before likely contests in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) and Turnbull Stakes (2000m). She also has entries for the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Cox Plate (2040m).
Vinrock is set to resume in the Group 3 H D F McNeil Stakes (1200m) before heading to Sydney for the Run To The Rose (1200m) and the Golden Rose (1400m).
“I was very happy with Vinrock, I thought he relaxed beautifully in the gallop,” Laurie said. “I loved the way he quickened up beside her (See You In Heaven).”
See You In Heaven, acquired from Richard and Chantelle Jolly earlier this year, could kick off in the Group 3 W W Cockram Stakes (1200m), though Laurie suggested it may be too strong a field.
“She’s a well-performed mare that probably tapered off last preparation,” Laurie said. “She’s had her little issues… but if we can get some form back, that would be wonderful, otherwise she will be off to visit one of the Yulong stallions.”
