Millie Fox Stakes brings stern opposition for Godolphin filly Mareth

Filly Mareth, on the rise, will undergo a crucial autumn examination lining up versus veteran mares in Rosehill’s Millie Fox Stakes.

The youngster has five outings under her belt, breaking maiden status at Canterbury last December before a valiant second placing behind elite filly Caffe Florian in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).

Michael Freedman has heightened expectations for this fresh start, where she battles proven performers Lazzura, Oh Diamond Lil, and fellow stable runner Cinsault, all while venturing to 1300m initially.

Jockey Zac Lloyd reconnects with Mareth after Gosford and calls her an easy three-year-old packed with future prospects.

“She is a very nice filly. A pleasure to ride, and she does everything right,” Lloyd said.

“She has obviously made her way through the grades quite quickly.

“She was unlucky not to win the Gosford Guineas. Her performance was very good, we just bumped into a very smart horse.

“We will get a good guide on her level at the moment after Saturday.”

Top-rated at $2.50, Lazzura eyes Chris Waller’s eighth capture of the Millie Fox Stakes (1300m), building on successive wins via Firestorm (2025) and Zougotcha (2024).

Waller saddles Pinito ($12) too, absent since her Queensland Oaks (2200m) second in June and now in his care post-James Cummings.

Godolphin fields three in the fillies and mares contest: Pinito, Mareth ($10), and Cinsault ($6.50).
