Oakfield Arrow makes it back-to-back Saturday wins for Buchanan

Wyong trainer Kristen Buchanan is in a purple patch of form at present and Oakfield Arrow ($7) ensured that continued by posting a dominant all the way victory at Rosehill Gardens in the Midway Handicap.

The Press Statement mare ran them ragged to salute by a length and a quarter over Mccormack ($26) with Rebel Bro ($15) a further length and three quarters back in third.

Only last Saturday Buchanan trained Moonshine Lady to a similar barrier to box win at Royal Randwick while also bringing up a hat-trick of victories at Port Macquarie.

The win brings up Buchanan’s fourth Midway win since its inception in July last year and she was more than happy to pick up the feature prize money on offer.

“It’s been great for our stable, fantastic for our owners,” Buchanan said.

“It just gives you a chance to get to town on a Saturday and have a shot to get some good money in the bank for our connections.

“Three different horses from our stable have won a Midway now, and we’ve had a second in the race too. The riches are certainly getting spread around.”

Being on the Gold Coast for the upcoming Magic Millions sales Buchanan was represented on course by Jess Castle, who is making a habit of conducting post-race winner interviews on her boss’s behalf.

Castle was complimentary of the steer by jockey James Innes Jr, who rated the four-year-old perfectly out in front.

“That was a beautiful ride by Jimmy, really gave her that breather half way through the race which I think clinched the win in the end,” Castle said.

“She’s a beautiful little mare, she’s very honest and professional to deal with. Great to have around the stable, just does everything right.”

Innes Jr was surprised he got his own way in front, and was grateful to post a win for Buchanan after not being able to ride Moonshine Lady to victory last weekend.

“I expected her to be fourth or fifth, we got there easy and got handed it on a silver platter really,” Innes Jr said.

“When they are going along that steady in front being left alone doing no work, I was just able to go through my gears at the 600m and under the light weight was just too good.

“She (Buchanan) does a terrific job with her horses, has a good team around her.

“I missed out on one last Saturday but made it up today.”
