Seeiaye will debut as the early punters’ elect in the Max Lees Classic at Newcastle, although trainer Peter Snowden is keeping expectations measured until he sees how the colt handles himself before stepping onto the track.
The well-educated youngster has impressed in both trials leading into his debut, finishing second at his first Rosehill outing and then producing a sharp effort to win his latest 900m trial.
Snowden is adamant the colt has a strong engine — his temperament is the only unknown.
“He can gallop,” Snowden said.
“He worked terrific on Tuesday, but he’s just got to take that quiet attitude to the races.
“If he gets there and he’s showing his anatomy off to everyone that’s not going to be good.
“If he holds it together in the mounting yard, you’ll know how he will run and if he does hold it together, he will run really well.”
Purchased for $65,000 at the Magic Millions, Seeiaye heads into a capacity field of 12 inexperienced runners set to line up in the Max Lees Classic (900m), a race named in memory of legendary local mentor Max Lees.
Kris Lees — Max’s son — celebrated a special win in the race last year with Gobi Desert and looks to defend the family honour with Farhah and Pomelo Chamomile.
