Trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have educated Buggsy on racing with less tension before Caulfield.
This Harry Angel offspring secured a striking 1000m success at Sandown upon debuting last month and enters the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) on Saturday for attempt two.
Four weeks post-run, the Cranbourne operation has concentrated on Buggsy’s manageability.
In his Sandown debut, Buggsy tracked handy before hitting top gear, and his trainers Price and Kent Jnr anticipate a solid 1200m effort from the colt.
The promising yet green nature shone in the first-up victory, Kent Jnr commented.
Kent Jnr depicted Buggsy as a vibrant colt mastering racecraft, set to apply it effectively.
“He looked like a sitting duck at the top of the straight (on debut) and what we found was that he was as strong as anything past the line,” Kent Jnr said.
“I think he’ll really enjoy the tempo of 1200 metres as he’ll be able to travel a bit longer.
“He’s had a four-and-a-half-week gap, so we’ve given him a couple of gallops sitting off a mate where he has leant to be a bit more tractable.
“He’s also had a couple of longer gallops where he has got into the groove of finding his rhythm and finishing off his gallop.
“We’re really happy with him and I think he’ll give a great sight.”
With Craig Williams having ridden debut, Thomas Stockdale now partners Buggsy.
Acquired for $300,000 at the Inglis Ready To Run Sale in October, Buggsy joins a successful stable juvenile roster this preparation, highlighted by Guest House’s Group 1 Golden Slipper run at Rosehill last month.
