Pearl Of Dubai has shown enough early promise to have Peter Snowden optimistic ahead of her return in Saturday’s Group 3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill.
The filly caught the eye during her debut preparation when finishing second in the Kirkham Plate, a performance made more impressive by the fact she went straight from breaking-in to the races.
“She has always shown a bit in her work, and that was her very first preparation,” Snowden said.
“She came from the breakers straight in and went all the way to a trial and all the way to the races, which was terrific.”
By Wootton Bassett and a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Pride Of Dubai, Pearl Of Dubai has both pedigree and ability on her side.
Snowden believes Saturday’s race will provide a strong indication of where she sits this preparation.
“She’s got good gate speed, so I’d say from that gate on Saturday she will be in the first four comfortably,” he said.
“She is a beautiful type and has such a good pedigree, you’ve got to give them the opportunity and that’s what we’re doing with her.”
The filly has had two trials leading into the Widden Stakes, the most recent seeing her finish strongly after settling back early.
“She works well, she’s trialled well. Her first run was great so we will see what she can do on Saturday against some pretty good opposition,” Snowden said.
Her performance this weekend will shape whether races such as the Golden Slipper or the Percy Sykes Stakes come into focus.
