Luvnwar continues to build an exciting profile for the Ascot carnival, adding another win to her resume with a determined performance in the Hygain Handicap (1400m) at Pinjarra on Saturday.
The progressive mare, prepared by Michael Grantham and raced by the Peters family, overcame traffic in the straight under Clint Johnston-Porter to land the final event on the card as a dominant $1.60 TAB Touch favourite, edging out Speed Demon by a neck.
This marks her second win from as many starts this prep, following a first-up victory over 1200m at the same track. Connections confirmed she will now be spelled with a spring and summer campaign in mind.
“Very pleased with what she’s done in these two runs,” Liam Peters told Tabradio. “Michael’s got her in top condition and we’re excited to aim for the carnival.”
The major target will be the prestigious Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m), where she will likely be aimed second-up.
“The mile seems ideal for her,” Peters added. “She’s grown into a more complete racehorse this time in—stronger, smarter, more professional.”
Luvnwar’s three-run spring campaign last year saw her place in the Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) before disappointing in the Peters’ Classic and Jungle Dawn Classic. This preparation, however, has gone smoothly by comparison.
“She’s come back better in every way,” Peters said. “There were no hiccups this time, and she’s shown us what she’s capable of.”
The daughter of War Decree now boasts five wins and four placings from 12 starts, with earnings nearing $300,000 and a carnival campaign firmly on the horizon.
