Salina looking to add to impressive first-up record

Gosford trainer Angela Davies is excited for the return of Salina Dreaming and is hopeful the mare can produce a dream return on Saturday at Rosehill.

Possessing an impressive first up record (4:3-0-1), Gosford trainer Angela Davies is confident Salina Dreaming will make her presence felt upon returning to the races at Rosehill on Saturday.

While the basis of her confidence relies on the firming of a currently rated soft 6 Rosehill surface, Davies is assured that the five-year-old – who is returning from a minor knee operation, is more than capable of taking out her 1100m assignment.

Usually possessing a high cruising speed, Davies believes the mare’s lack of intent in her two lead up trials was due to the condition of the track rather than the 8-month layoff.

“When she gets on a wet track, she cuts herself to pieces. Both tracks she trialled on in the lead up were soft and cut up, so we never really let her go,” Davies said.

“She’s certainly working well at home and done everything right, so now we’ll see if she returns in good order.

“I think she’s a good fresh horse on top of the ground, I really think that’s her go. Hopefully it firms up before Saturday; I’d love to see it a good 4.

“We will try and space her runs a bit more this time in and make sure we are on a nice firm surface.”

Cuffed with 60kgs on her back, the weight is the heaviest the daughter of Dream Ahead has had to carry in her 11-race career.

To aid with the increased weight, Davies has acquired the services of in-form apprentice Tyler Schiller who will claim 3kgs.

With the Provincial Championships series fast approaching, Davies; the proud trainer of 2020 winner Through The Cracks, is at this stage without a runner in her stable to target this year’s series with.

The first of five heats of the Championships kicks off in Newcastle on the 27th of February, before eventually culminating on the 17th of April at Randwick.
