Tropicus to be set for The Goodwood

The Anthony and Sam Freedman stable look to have found the right distance for Tropicus after he led throughout to claim the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m).

The son of Too Darm Hot was tried over 1400m and 1600m in the spring, but Sam Freedman said after Saturday’s success the three-year-old was likely to be kept over shorter courses.

“We stretched him out to the mile, and he was keen in a slowly run Guineas,” Freedman said.

“You’re always learning, and the spring is hard because you’ve got to make a decision which way you go.

“We made the decision to go to the Golden Rose and the Guineas, but he’ll stick to the six furlongs this time around.”

Freedman said he would consult connections, adding Tropicus could be an ideal type to head to Adelaide for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.
