Star searching for feature sprint win in the Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final

Trainer John Moloney is hoping Hearcomesthestar can shine in the Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final, despite being the roughie of the field at $16.

With nominations for the race initially light, Moloney took the opportunity to enter the Zoustar mare, who has been a reliable performer with five wins and five placings from her 21 career starts.

“When she ran fourth at Flemington last start in the benchmark 90, they didn’t run that much slower than they did in the straight six handicap,” Moloney explained.

“If you scale it back on weights and measures, which everyone likes to do, it means she would have been competitive in that under the weight scale that she’ll carry – 54 kilos – on Saturday.”

Moloney says soft conditions and the 1200m distance won’t be an issue and believes she deserves her shot at stakes level.

“She’s in good order, so why not?” he added.

Top fancy Marble Nine is aiming for three straight wins and sits at the head of the market at $3.20 for the Corstens-Larkin team.
