Trainer John O’Shea and his associate Tom Charlton had not originally pencilled in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes as Satono Glow’s campaign opener. However, her commanding win could now see her race on that straight strip of turf again this season.
The three-year-old filly achieved her second victory from two starts at Flemington, just getting the better of Over Excited in the $175,000 Listed event run over 1100 metres.
Charlton revealed that he arrived at Flemington uncertain about the future plans for the Satono Aladdin filly, but her recent performance might have settled the matter.
She is now considered a strong chance to return to Melbourne for the $2 million Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day.
“We came into today just thinking whether we may go up and trip or stay where we are and, I guess, we might have answered that,” he commented. “But she’s really classy and has a great group of owners who will support us with allowing us to buy them fillies every year and they’ve been well rewarded.”
The Cap D’Antibes Stakes was a notable race for O’Shea and Charlton, who also had the outsider Scintillation finish in third position.
