Champion trainer Chris Waller may turn to lightly raced Summer Flame in Saturday’s running of the Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) at Scone, after confirming that stablemate Amelita is unlikely to take her place in the field.
Amelita, a Group 2 winner at Flemington, was dealt a tough hand by the barrier draw and will instead be saved for a Brisbane run.
“She’s got a big weight and a wide draw, two negatives,” Waller said.
Summer Flame, meanwhile, gets her chance at stakes level with a low weight and favourable draw. The Written Tycoon filly will be aiming to make an impact in her first NSW appearance, representing Rosemont Stud.
“She will run really well,” Waller said. “She is by the right stallion and she is a nice type.”
Summer Flame is currently at $26 in a competitive betting field, led by unbeaten Soft Love at $3.30. Gerringong and Thames round out the leading fancies.
