Talents of On Display primed for Adelaide Stakes challenge

On Display’s handlers aim to rectify the setback from a year ago by chasing Stakes glory in Adelaide.

Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, the four-year-old mare is being prepared for the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville April 25, a contest in which she was fourth last season before taking out the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) shortly after.

The mare is entered for Saturday’s Listed Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield and the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1529m) at Morphettville.

Her buildup to the Queen Of The South Stakes is keyed on the Anniversary Vase, drawing post three with jockey Thomas Stockdale booked.

The training partnership has also confirmed Golden Path and Taken for the Anniversary Vase, yet Kent Jnr nominates On Display as their prime chance.

“She’s the high quality one of ours in the race,” Kent Jnr said.

“She is going well. She found the leader biased track at Flemington difficult to overcome and last time behind Treasurethe Moment, I haven’t seen a race where they have gone that slowly for a long time.

“The sectionals meant she had no chance, but she zipped home as good as anything in the race and she’ll run well.”

Saturday marks her third start, coming off third to Scheelite in Flemington’s Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes on March 7 and fifth behind Treasurethe Moment in Caulfield’s Sunline Stakes (1600m) on March 21.

The Price and Kent Jnr trio’s lightest carrier, Taken, has gate 14 in the field of 14.

Kent Jnr lauded Taken’s strong second on soft going at Flemington recently.

“I thought he was excellent and he should be a good chance down in the weights, despite the draw,” Kent Jnr said.

Golden Path’s future lies in Queensland, and per Kent Jnr, a further preparation run is needed post his resuming sixth in Taken’s last Flemington assignment.

“He’s heading to Queensland and I think he needs another warm up run before he strikes form,” Kent Jnr said.
