True warrior to continue Sensational run in John Dillon Stakes

Zou Sensation continues to defy expectations as he lines up again at Caulfield, showing no signs of slowing despite a lengthy campaign.

The durable gelding has been in work for over 12 months, and while trainers Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin have remained vigilant, the six-year-old continues to thrive.

He rounded out last year with victory in the Listed Kensington Stakes (1400m) at Flemington and now returns for the Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m).

The race will again be run at Caulfield, a track where Zou Sensation boasts an excellent record, winning three of his five starts there.

“We can’t fault him,” Larkin said.

“If there were any faults from his last start to now, he’d be in the paddock but the true warrior that he is, he keeps copping everything we throw at him and he came through the run really well.

“His gallop work has been super and he was nice and fresh down at the beach this week.

“I can’t see why he can’t hold the form.”

Market support has been strong, with Zou Sensation firming from $3.90 into $2.90, and Jamie Melham again booked to ride despite the topweight.

“He just loves his racing and we just keep things simple with him, giving him time in the paddock between runs,” Larkin said.

“I think he can carry the weight.”

Stablemate Superlicious also heads to Caulfield, lining up third-up in the Remembering Ted Ryan (1400m).

Larkin said the decision to avoid Pakenham and race at Caulfield was deliberate.

“She is definitely ready to go,” he said.

“She’s been competitive in strong races and has been unlucky at times with barriers. She deserves another win.”

Form students looking at the John Dillon Stakes can assess current racing betting markets ahead of raceday.
