With trial performances now in the books, Michael Freedman has begun finalising first-up plans for Marhoona, Apocalyptic and Manaal ahead of the autumn features.
Golden Slipper heroine Marhoona led from start to finish in her Randwick heat, accounting for Autumn Glow in a sharp 900-metre trial.
Apocalyptic, winner of the Flight Stakes last spring, finished third behind Beiwacht in the following heat, with stablemate Manaal close behind.
Freedman said Apocalyptic’s early preparation would mirror her previous campaign.
“She will just have a fairly steady one and then we will probably bring her here for the Light Fingers,” Freedman said.
“I’m keeping options open. Depending how she comes back, we may look at keeping her to shorter course races.
“The first two would be obvious choices, the Light Fingers and Surround, but beyond that we will keep an open mind.”
The Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes will be run on February 14, ahead of the Group 1 Surround Stakes.
Freedman added that Manaal and Marhoona also have defined programs.
“Manaal will run in either the Triscay or the Expressway, and Marhoona is one I’m still mapping out, possibly with a look at Melbourne.”
Freedman also saddled up trial winner Just Feelin’ Lucky, while Ceolwulf, Lady Shenandoah and Aeliana continued their preparations in separate heats.
