Weather query for She’s Bulletproof in The Heath 1100 at Caulfield

Charlotte Littlefield is weighing up her options with talented mare She’s Bulletproof, who is pencilled in to resume in Saturday’s Group 3 Heath 1100 (1100m) at Caulfield. However, the weather may have the final say on where she runs.

Littlefield said the mare would only take her place if the track remained no worse than a Soft 5, with the Listed Chautauqua Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley next week the alternative option should rain soften the track further.

“A soft five will be fine but beyond that we know she is not at her best and we do not want to start off the campaign in a negative way,” Littlefield said.

“We want to build her confidence, so we will just wait and see and if the weather is good the following week, we’ll head to the Chautauqua Stakes.”

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast showers for Melbourne leading into the weekend, with up to 7mm on Friday before clearing on Saturday.

She’s Bulletproof hasn’t raced since finishing fifth in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes behind Schwarz. Earlier in the season she posted her career-best result, running second in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.

Littlefield said the mare had returned in better shape than previous preparations, being just 2kg off her racing weight and showing improved fitness and recovery.

“It was always hard to keep her svelte and in top fitness as she was always a good doing mare last time in,” Littlefield said.

“But I think we’ve nailed it this time around and we’ve got her where she needs to be first-up.

“She has not been the cleanest of breathers in previous preps, but her recovery on Tuesday was excellent, and her breathing was exceptional.”

Looking ahead, Littlefield has the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) earmarked as her likely second-up run, while also hinting She’s Bulletproof could be tried over further as her career progresses.
