Weights task ahead for Autumn Glow in Doncaster Mile

Stories featuring Autumn Glow today always conjure thoughts of Winx.

Expect no departure here.

If the mare beaten last out by Chris Waller hits 10 in a row during this year’s Doncaster Mile at Randwick, only Winx the legend will share those honors.

The daughter of The Autumn Sun received 56.5kg in Tuesday’s release for the Group 1 paying $4 million.

For the April 4 1600-metre handicap, Ceolwulf (59kg), Gringotts (58.5kg), Sir Delius (58kg), Antino (57.5kg), Buckaroo (57kg) and Pericles (57kg) carried superior burdens.

Out of 139 entries into the Doncaster, 31 met the 49kg floor, counting Group 1 winners Apocalyptic, Ole Dancer, Vinrock, Nepotism, plus Victorian filly sensation Sheza Alibi and Australian Guineas leading light Sixties.

Winx bore identical weight to win 10 years ago, a record untouched for four-year-old mares.

Four mares exceeded it for Doncaster wins, Cuddle foremost at 59kg equivalent in 1936, but all five or more years of age.

Sunline succeeded similarly at 58kg in 2002; as a four-year-old previously on 57.5kg, however, she wilted late against 51.5kg three-year-old Over.

Three other four-year-old mares tested 56.5kg or more in Doncasters post-2000, failing top-10 berths entirely.

In 2011 More Joyous was 11th with 57kg; Typhoon Tracy got 14th, Alizee 17th, both on 56.5kg.

Two kilos above her last Epsom Handicap winning tote, Autumn Glow’s Doncaster impost offers a shot at 10th to claim both races same year.

One mare managed it before? You guessed it, Winx.
