Yulong dreams of another Devil Night with Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale buys

Yulong Investments showed their continued faith in Extreme Choice by acquiring several in-foal mares at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, a move spurred by the progression of their colt, Devil Night, winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Devil Night, trained by the Hawkes trio, has returned to work after a freshen-up following his fifth-place run in the Golden Slipper. That effort came off just his third career start and connections are optimistic about his spring potential.

“He looks terrific and really benefited from the break,” said Sam Fairgray, Yulong’s COO. “John said he was still very raw during his first prep, and everything he did was off sheer talent.”

Devil Night’s debut second in the Blue Diamond Prelude hinted at his promise, which he quickly confirmed with a Group 1 triumph. His return target could be the Coolmore Stud Stakes in the spring, although his exact campaign remains open-ended.

“We’ll map out the right path for him. He’s got natural ability and is already a Group 1 winner, so it’s about giving him the best opportunities,” Fairgray added.

At the sale, Yulong spent significantly to add elite bloodlines to their broodmare band, headlined by the $2.1 million purchase of Frankel mare Call Di. They also snapped up Finepoint for $1.3 million and Ravisher for $900,000—all in-foal to Extreme Choice.

“These mares are rare, and when you can secure them in-foal to a stallion like Extreme Choice, they’re only going to rise in value,” Fairgray noted.
