Yulong’s Extreme measures at 2026 Magic Millions

After striking gold in last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes with a seven-figure Extreme Choice colt, Yulong has again made a bold statement at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The major Victorian racing operation topped Day 2 proceedings on Wednesday, outlaying $2 million for a colt by Extreme Choice from the Hinchinbrook mare Hazlebrook.

The colt is closely related to Group 3 winner Wollombi, another Yulong purchase, and general manager Jun Zhang said the pedigree and long-term upside made the decision straightforward.

“He’s a very special colt, he was our only target that we definitely needed to buy,” Zhang said.

“We can see some stallion potential with him and also we own the sister as well, she is in-foal to Diatonic, so we try and create our own families so that is another reason why we had to get him.

“Extreme Choice is a very successful stallion and could be a history (making) stallion in the future, so this is why Mr Zhang is trying to get every Extreme Choice he can.”

That philosophy paid dividends last season when Devil Night justified a $1.4 million Magic Millions price tag by winning the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Yulong’s purchase followed another $2 million result earlier in the week when a Frankel colt was snapped up by Coolmore, underlining the strength of demand at the sale.

Several other premium lots changed hands on Wednesday, including two Snitzel colts that fetched $1.5 million apiece.

Tom Magnier secured a brother to Beadman for Coolmore, while China Horse Club, Newgate and Clarke Bloodstock teamed up to buy a colt out of Shamexpress mare Embrace Me.

Snitzel’s influence continued with a $1.2 million filly out of Group 1 winner Krone selling to James Harron, matched by the Rising Sun Syndicate’s purchase of an I Am Invincible filly out of Key.

With elite bloodlines already shaping future racing narratives, many buyers and fans are tracking long-term outcomes via trusted online bookmakers.

The five seven-figure sales on Wednesday took the total to eight across the first two days, with just under $94 million spent at an average of $288,267, a median of $200,000 and an 83 percent clearance rate.
