The All Aged Stakes is always one of the most exciting features of the Autumn Carnival, as the country’s biggest stables and often, best horses have one last crack at Group 1 glory.

The 2022 All Aged Stakes field is no exception, and we’re set for another thrilling betting race at Royal Randwick on Saturday afternoon.

All Aged Stakes – Winner – No. 1 Mo’unga

Without a doubt one of my favourite horses, and the All Aged Stakes really does look the perfect race for Mo’unga.

At the beginning of his career with the Waller stable he was good, but he has gone to a new level for Annabel Neasham and is now a two-time Group 1 winner.

He made ground against the pattern of the day to finish second in the Futurity Stakes when resuming, he has been freshened since that effort and this has been the major target the whole way, so I am more than happy to have him on top.

All Aged Stakes – 2nd – No. 14 In The Congo

The Golden Rose winner In The Congo has returned two nice efforts this time, and he gets his pet conditions in the All Aged Stakes.

In The Congo has been a good horse for the Waterhouse & Bott stable since debuting, but his spring prep really was the making of him, and he recorded a deserved Group 1 win.

So far this time, he has finished third in The Galaxy, second in the Arrowfield Sprint, and he is ready to do something third-up over 1400m, and under regular hoop Timmy Clark.

All Aged Stakes – 3rd – No. 8 Forbidden Love

Forbidden Love has been one of, if not the standout performer of the entire Autumn Carnival, and she too wouldn’t look out of place in the All Aged Stakes winner’s stall.

Forbidden Love gave them a galloping lesson in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes back in February, and repeated that effort and result in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes only one week later.

She progressed to another Group 1 triumph, the third of her career in the George Ryder, but just found a couple of her rivals a little sharp in the Doncaster Mile a fortnight ago.

I thought that run suggested that she might have come to the end of her prep, but she is certainly more than capable of winning here if I am wrong!

All Aged Stakes – 4th – No. 2 Cascadian

He wasn’t at his best in the Donny, but I am going to give Cascadian another chance in the All Aged Stakes.

He finally realised his top-line potential in last year’s Doncaster Mile, and Cascadian is unlucky not to have added a second Group 1 to his mantle.

He’s returned several nice efforts this time in, winning the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes most notably, along with consecutive fifth placings in the Australian Cup and the All-Star Mile.

He takes his place in this contest at peak fitness, and I think his class will take him a long way towards overcoming a heavy track.
