Some of the country’s best three-year-old fillies will get out over a trip in the Australian Oaks on Day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick.
She has always shown ability, but Hinged has gone to another level this time, and she has opened a warm favourite in 2022 Australian Oaks betting following Tuesday’s barrier.

Australian Oaks – Winner – No. 2 Gypsy Goddess
Nah, I think that the Australian Oaks will be claimed by the Queensland raider Gypsy Goddess, under star West Aussie hoop, Willie Pike.
The Tarzino filly won each of her first five career starts north of the board, improving with each appearance and as she got further out in trip, and she ended her debut prep with a dominant win in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes.
She picked up where she left off over a mile at Eagle Farm last month and suffered her first defeat in the Vinery Stud Stakes last time out, thought kept her best work for late when third.
Breeding suggests she’ll find another gear at a mile and a half, and I think that she can and will bounce back.
Australian Oaks – 2nd – No. 1 Hinged
I’m not entirely convinced that she’ll be at her best over this trip, but I think that Hinged’s class alone can take her a long way towards winning the Australian Oaks.
The daughter of Worthy Cause finished midfield in the Light Fingers Stakes when resuming this time, and responded with a career-best effort to strike in the Surround Stakes.
She has since filled the minors in the Coolmore Classic and the Vinery Stud Stakes, and takes her place in this field at peak fitness. If she does get the trip, she’ll take a power of beating.
Australian Oaks – 3rd – No. 6 El Patroness
Victorian raider El Patroness returned a rare flat effort in the Alister Clark Stakes last time out, but we know how good she can be at her best, and she’ll certainly see out the trip in the Australian Oaks.
The Shamus Award filly won the Listed Super Impose at only her third career start in spring, and only just missed behind Gunstock in the lucrative Neds Classic.
She finished third in each of her first two starts back this time, including the Group 2 Autumn Classic, and she takes her place in the Australian Oaks field at peak fitness.
Australian Oaks – 4th – No. 8 Gin Martini
I’m convinced that Gin Martini is a decent horse, and I think that she too can run a race in the Australian Oaks.
The daughter of Rip Van Winkle finished down the order in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford back in January, but followed up that effort with a couple of impressive wins in weaker company.
She filled the minors in the Group 3 Kembla Classic two starts back and, to be fair, was left a little flat footed in the Vinery Stud Stakes last time out.
She’s rock-hard fit, and I’m happy to throw her into my numbers once more!
