Group 1 racing returns to Morphettville on Saturday, and an open edition of the Australasian Oaks headlines the program.
Some of the country’s best three-year-old fillies have been confirmed in a capacity Australasian Oaks field, and we are set for a terrific betting race.

Australasian Oaks – Winner – No. 4 Bon’s A Pearla
She doesn’t deserve favouritism per sei, but I thought that Bon’s A Pearla rated as a key winning chance in the Australasian Oaks, and she is over the odds at around the $19 mark.
Bon’s A Pearla has been a great horse for the Kevin Corstens yard since debuting, and she stamped herself as one to watch during the Spring Carnival, winning the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, most notably.
She has continued to improve with racing this time, and filled the minors in the Australian Guineas three starts back, while finishing second in the Alexandra Stakes and Auraria Stakes at her last two.
She takes her place in this contest at peak fitness, and assuming she sees out the 2000m, it looks the perfect Group 1 target for her.
Australasian Oaks – 2nd – No. 3 Daisies
Daisies has been set for the Australasian Oaks, and she too wouldn’t look out of place in the winner’s stall.
The Sebring filly raced well around some of her age group’s best in the spring, and she’s another who has returned this time in competitive form, winning the Alexandra Stakes two back, and finishing third in the Port Adelaide Guineas last time.
I thought that last run was a little below her best, but she’s a few weeks between starts now, and I think that will prove key to another competitive effort.
Australasian Oaks – 3rd – No. 6 My Whisper
My Whisper has opened our early favourite in Australasian Oaks betting, and she is primed for another good effort.
The Frankel filly broke her maiden at Kilmore when resuming this time, and she has only continued to improve with each start and as the bar has been raised, culminating in a lovely win in the Auraria Stakes last time.
She’s rock-hard fit and does look ideally suited to the Australasian Oaks, the only reason that I have the other two ahead of her is because they have raced well in Group 1 company previously, and this filly is yet to be tested at the grade.
Australasian Oaks – 4th – No. 1 El Patroness
She was a very impressive winner of the Australian Oaks at Randwick on Day 2 of The Championships, and El Patroness clearly has the ability to win Saturday’s feature in South Australia as well.
El Patroness stamped herself as one to watch during her debut prep in spring, and she filled the minors of her first two back this time.
A rare lacklustre effort in the Alister Clark Stakes at The Valley had many punters, me included, jumping off her when she went around in Sydney, but didn’t she make us look silly.
My queries this week are the drop in trip, and whether or not this race is an afterthought.
