Ka Ying Rising on track for The Everest

The march towards The Everest remains perfectly on course for Ka Ying Rising after his effortless return win in the Chief Executive’s Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Unbeaten in his last 13 appearances, the David Hayes-trained flyer once again showcased his class to take his overall record to 14 wins from 16 starts. The horse has been odds-on for the world’s richest turf sprint since being confirmed as the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s slot runner, and he shortened further to $1.70 following his latest success.

Purton allowed Ka Ying Rising to sit just off the speed before easing up alongside Bottomuptogether at the 275m mark. Within moments the contest was sealed as the son of Shamexpress strode clear, clocking 1:07.63 for the six furlongs while holding Lucky Sweynesse at bay by more than two lengths.

Connections have mapped out a straightforward program with the Chief Executive’s Cup the gelding’s only assignment before travelling to Sydney. He will quarantine at Canterbury Park in late September to finalise preparations aimed at writing history as the first international horse to capture The Everest.

Purton, who was honoured with Racing Hall of Fame induction last week, will head to Australia to continue his association in the $20 million feature.
