Tempted on song for G1 Golden Rose assault

Tempted will step out in the Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday, with her connections hoping a victory secures her place in The Everest.

Godolphin has yet to declare who will take their slot in the $20 million Randwick sprint on October 18. Both Tempted and Beiwacht, who runs for Chris Waller, remain in the mix depending on Saturday’s outcome.

Tempted will jump from barrier eight with Ethan Brown aboard, the same jockey who partnered her to a decisive victory in the Group 2 Run To The Rose. Beiwacht will start from barrier two.

Maher said Tempted has thrived since her juvenile season. “She was up there with the best of them as a two-year-old and she’s come back in great order as a three-year-old,” he said. “We’ll head to Saturday and see how we line up.”

Plans beyond the Golden Rose may include The Everest or the Coolmore Stud Stakes, rather than the Caulfield Guineas. Maher said her relaxed attitude at his Bong Bong property, where she spends time in the paddock during the day, has been key to her progress. “She eats well, she relaxes, and the environment suits her temperament.”

Godolphin is aiming for a remarkable seventh Golden Rose triumph, having won last year with Broadsiding. Maher, meanwhile, is striving for his first success in the race.
