Autumn Glow following proven path to the $10m Golden Eagle

Chris Waller’s unbeaten mare Autumn Glow will continue her preparation toward the Golden Eagle with a quiet barrier trial at Randwick, following the same path that delivered success for former stable star Kolding.

Waller famously guided Kolding to the Epsom HandicapGolden Eagle double in 2019, using a single trial between races — a blueprint he now hopes to replicate with Autumn Glow, who already has the Epsom trophy in hand.

“Kolding won both and didn’t race in between so it’s a very similar path to that,” assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth explained. “We’ll nominate for the Empire Rose Stakes as well, but our preference remains the Golden Eagle. She’s done her Group 1 job, so Monday’s trial is just about keeping her ticking over.”

The daughter of Autumn Sun has continued to impress since her Epsom victory on October 4, remaining unbeaten in seven career starts. “She galloped on Thursday and hasn’t missed a beat,” Duckworth said. “She’s come through the Epsom in terrific order, so it’s full steam ahead.”

Autumn Glow will step out in the 1050m second heat at Randwick on Monday, where she’ll meet Epsom runner-up Fully Lit. Bookmakers currently have her at $2.50 for the Golden Eagle (1500m) on November 1, ahead of Japanese contender Panja Tower ($4.50).
