Future History read to make another mark in the Australia Day Cup

Ciaron Maher believes Future History is in career-best form as the stayer lines up in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Warwick Farm.

The former French import is chasing a fourth straight victory after a dominant summer campaign across multiple states.

“He’s in a good spot and when he gets that right race shape, I don’t think it matters what the trip is,” Maher said.

Future History has already claimed the Listed Christmas Cup, the Bagot Handicap and the January Cup this preparation.

Adam Hyeronimus resumes the ride on Monday, having previously partnered the gelding to success, and boasts an excellent strike rate with the Maher stable.

“It is all about the race shape and when he gets his way, he quickens up and it doesn’t matter whether the race is 2000 or 2400,” Maher said.

Maher admitted the gelding took time to recover following his run in the 2023 Melbourne Cup.

“It took a long time for him to come good after that,” he said.

“He’s now fit, well and thriving, and that’s why we’ve been able to string a few wins together.”

Stablemate Saint George remains an acceptor but may be saved for the Roy Higgins Quality later in the autumn.
