Ohope Wins, the talented filly, clearly takes after her sire Ocean Park, as evidenced by the familiar expression regarding the apple and the tree.

After her New Zealand Oaks success, the filly targets her Australian premiere in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday, her seventh start amid a preparation that kicked off in November.

The three-year-old arrived at Chris Waller’s Sydney base, prompting jockey James McDonald to ponder the extended schedule, a concern the filly promptly addressed.

“That was probably one question mark I had on her,” McDonald said.

“But she’s got such a brilliant attitude. Her father was Ocean Park, and he was as tough as they come, and this filly feels exactly the same.

“She’s got a great appetite for work and just loves it.

“Her program would be just eat, sleep and work. She is very rigid like that and very measured in how she does everything. She is just a beautiful filly.”

Ohope Wins has notched three wins in six races during her first season, given a freshen-up post her February 21 capture of the New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Ellerslie.

Partnering in a latest barrier trial, McDonald praised her strong closing section, reminiscent of 2024 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Orchestral, who had won the preceding New Zealand Derby (2400m) that year.

“She was a good filly, Orchestral, and this one feels just as good,” McDonald said.

“It will take a good filly to beat her.”

A nine-horse lineup is set for the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), with Ohope Wins handed the widest stall.

It provides a customary route to the ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11, Ohope Wins the evident early market leader.
