Inglis Easter yearling sale: $2m tag on Switzerland’s younger brother

On the track he has a high bar set by his sibling, but Switzerland’s younger brother wasted no time making waves at sale time, captivating attention as a standout on Day 2 of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Offered as a colt by Snitzel from American dam Ms Bad Behavior, vigorous bidding propelled him to $2 million, acquired by an alliance including Coolmore, the racing and standing operation for Coolmore Stud Stakes hero Switzerland.

That exceeded Switzerland’s purchase price by $500,000 from three years earlier at the same sale.

The winning bid came from James Harron, TFI, and Coolmore, sending the colt to Chris Waller, Switzerland’s preparer. Waller also has Ms Bad Behavior’s third Snitzel colt under his wing, unraced St Gotthard.

“Everyone came together and agreed on what a special horse he was,” Harron said.

“He’ll go to Chris Waller, who obviously has done wonders with Switzerland and I know they’ve got a great opinion of the full brother.

“The mare’s just doing a great job, she’s just not missing, so that makes it even more exciting.

“Aside from all that, on his own merits, he just to me was a standout type and now we’ve just got to keep dreaming that he can be the real one for us and hopefully lots of fun on the track.”

The $2 million animal is Ms Bad Behavior’s third Snitzel product to crack seven figures at Easter. St Gotthard made $2.7 million last year, Decorum $550,000 and has won three from five for trainer Michael Freedman.

Day 2’s topper over Switzerland’s brother was a lone yearling, Too Darn Hot from Enbihaar (sister to Too Darn Lizzie), at $2.2 million to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Watership Down, Johnny McKeever, and Waterhouse/Bott.

Also hitting $2 million was a colt from US mare Giza Goddess, bought by Matt Laurie and Yulong.

Extreme Choice topped the sale outright with a $3 million Day 1 colt from Pretty Brazen via Tom Magnier, alongside a $1.8 million filly and two at $1.6 million.

His nine yearlings averaged $1,561,111, more than twice Too Darn Hot’s $751,667.

The 2026 sale’s clearance rate dropped to 75 percent from 88 percent, gross from over $151 million to near $145 million.

Yet averages increased to $464,473 from $447,832, with median off $10,000 to $350,000.
