Ciaron Maher’s stable eyes key Black Type by heading Twilight Elegance to Adelaide.
Saturday’s Listed Port Adelaide Cup (2518m) on Morphettville’s track presents the mare with a platform to earn Black Type and strengthen her appeal as a broodmare prospect.
Twilight Elegance was set for Flemington last Saturday until the long-range weather check revealed rain risks, prompting a shift to Adelaide.
Conditions in Adelaide for Saturday are forecasted at 25c with 3-10mm of rain likely.
She excelled over 2500m on Soft 5 at Pakenham last month and then was fifth to The Western Front across 2400m at Caulfield on April 4.
The Western Front succeeded in the Flemington race Twilight Elegance scratched from last Saturday.
National Assistant Trainer Jack Turnbull of Ciaron Maher Racing highlighted how Saturday’s event fits ideally as a Black Type opportunity for Twilight Elegance.
“She ran well at Caulfield last start after winning over the trip at Pakenham,” Turnbull said.
“For an opportunity to run in a Listed race and attempt to get some all-important Black Type on her page, it makes sense.
“We know she wants ground and if we do get some rain, then that will only enhance her chances.”
The Port Adelaide Cup lineup includes 11 starters, Twilight Elegance drawn at seven with Jamie Melham to ride.
Sir Kingsford looks for back-to-back wins having prevailed under Teagan Voorham in the prior running.
