Strong sprint options give Snowden juggling act in features

A wealth of quality sprinters at his disposal has Peter Snowden balancing his runners across an array of top-tier contests.

Zealously took the Hawkesbury Gold Rush (1100m) two weeks ago, as King Of Roseau and Beadman landed stakes doubles across state lines last weekend with the Takeover Target Stakes (1100m) at Gosford and Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

“We’re lucky we’ve got some troops back and they’ve all been firing,” Snowden said.

“It’s a bit of a juggling act, but it’s a good problem to have.”

Next, Beadman chases further glory with a quick backup into Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m), elevated from standby when two rivals scratched early.

Scone hosts Snowden’s sprint brigade with King Of Sparta and Fire Star eyeing the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m), Tuileries in the Dark Jewel Classic (1400m), and Akaysha alongside Miss Freelove in the Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m).

Miss Freelove skipped Brisbane to target Scone, landing a softer barrier four.

Group 3-placed at Flemington in the spring carnival, she posted a steady midfield return behind Golden Straand at Warwick Farm last month in unsuitable fast-run conditions for her style.

For Saturday, Snowden adds winkers, praising the three-year-old’s progress since that first-up.

“She went back and they weren’t making ground. She did run on, but she was a bit too far back,” Snowden said of the performance.

“I have added some headgear, and hopefully that just gets her a bit more involved.

“She is going well, and she trialled really well the other week when she flew home, so she will be heading there will her tail up and she’ll be a chance of winning.”

The wide gate 16 tests Akaysha in the same race, yet she brings Brisbane Listed form and a prior Woodlands Stakes (1100m) minor placing from last year.

After 18 months away since the 2024 Russell Balding Stakes (1200m), King Of Sparta resumes, joined by Fire Star who returns strongly fresh from summer exploits.
