While promising colt Central Europe will be reserved for a future date, his stablemate Diameter, who has placed at Group One level, is slated to spearhead Chris Waller’s runners in the upcoming three-year-old features at Rosehill.
Central Europe, with part-ownership from Coolmore, is nominated for the Golden Rose and Cox Plate but has not been accepted for Saturday’s San Domenico Stakes (1100m) as Waller aims to manage his race program.
After an encouraging third place first-up behind fillies Chilly Girl and Blue Door in the Rosebud (1100m), Central Europe is now scheduled to race in the Run To The Rose (1200m) on September 12.
“I just feel if we run him too many times, he’s not going to get to his grand finals as well as he could if we space his runs,” Waller stated.
“He goes third-up into the Golden Rose, and then he can either go up in distance to a Caulfield Guineas or back in distance to races like the Everest and the Coolmore sprint.”
Diameter was entered for both the San Domenico Stakes and the Up And Coming Stakes (1300m); however, the stable has opted for the latter, where she will carry joint topweight of 61kg.
The colt, who triumphed in the Fernhill Handicap (1600m) at two years old and later placed at the elite level in the Champagne Stakes (1600m), is believed by Waller to be a sharper individual than his juvenile form might suggest.
“He’s Group One placed over a mile, and a winner over a mile, but he’s by Brazen Beau so I think he’ll find some speed and be competitive first-up,” Waller commented.
Also representing the stable in the Up And Coming Stakes will be Joint Venture, who earned a shot at Group competition following a determined victory on a heavy track at Rosehill in July.
A field of eight competitors has been finalized for the San Domenico Stakes, which will see the return of the celebrated Golden Slipper winner Guest House and the third-place finisher Music Time.
Guest House is aiming to make history by becoming the first horse since Tierce in 1991 to win both the Golden Slipper and the San Domenico Stakes.
